His research area of interest is in underground wireless communication and underwater–acoustic communication, underwater signal processing, acoustic wireless sensor networks, Green Energy Harvesting, and Deep Learning. He has established an exclusive research lab for underwater namely “Underwater Acoustic Research Lab” by 2014. (https://sites.google.com/prod/view/uwarlssn). He is a Life Member of Indian Society for technical education, Ocean Society of India, and member of Acoustic Society of America. He has acquired projects worth Rs. 111.31 Lakh from various agencies including MoES, DST-SSTP, TNSCST, NIOT, and SSN Trust. He has authored five books. To his credit, he has authored and co-authored 50+ research articles on Underwater Communication in leading International Journals including JASA, Sea Technology, Geo Marine Science, etc. He has also presented and published his research papers in 80+ proceedings of International and National conferences. He has supervised 5 PhD dissertations and supervising 3 PhD scholars.

The UWARLab was established with the support of SSN management with a seed money of 7 Lakhs. At present, this lab is equipped with various underwater sensors like Hydrophone array, Acoustic transmitter, Side Scan Sonar, Sound

Velocity Profiler, Underwater drone and Cameras with accessories for real-time data collection worth close to 60 Lakhs through various funded projects worth Rupees 111.31 Lakhs. Recently the lab is equipped with the underwater testing facility by the establishment of Underwater test tank (12' L x 8' W x 4' H) with capacity of 10,874 litres.

The lab currently focuses its research on Underwater ambient noise analysis, Study on Coral classifications, Underwater Image processing, localization of Autonomous Underwater Vehicle, Animal bio-acoustics, testing and implementation of MIMO transmission in underwater channel, etc. The lab has developed an energy harvesting system using seawater as an electrolyte and an inspection class Remotely Operatable Vehicle named “ORCA”. The lab also provides consultancy services to industry, academic, research and PG/UG students interested in underwater domain by providing its facilities and technical support.
